Language Revitalization - Integrating language and culture Our Patwin language offers us a view of the world our ancestors existed in that is unique to our tribe. We use a variety of multimedia tactics to engage adult and children learners in a host of activities that assist in making our Patwin language relevant in today’s world. Teachers take a progressive approach by labeling items in the classroom in our native Patwin language and by utilizing iPods as a tool to hear and strengthen the spoken language.
The Academy also houses an extensive collection of books and DVD’s in its library that includes a broad reference section on Native American art, history and culture, instructional and reference material for teachers and the classics. Other unique learning opportunities include partnerships with students at UC Davis and Sacramento State University students as well as the Academy’s speaker series featuring local Native Americans from around California. Speakers engage students with hands-on projects using traditional tools and materials.
